The Director of Development reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for advancing philanthropic financial support, including operating, capital, and endowment funds, for the Manchester Community Library, an inspiring gathering place and trusted resource in the community, and a hub for information, enrichment, and social connection. They will identify, solicit and cultivate individuals, foundations and corporate prospects through direct mail, grants, personal visits, and targeted events. They will manage communication tools to promote the organization with an emphasis on enhancing understanding of and financial support for the Library’s work.
Job description: The Director of Development must have experience in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating fundraising and other development efforts, such as capital campaign, annual giving, grant-writing, fundraising events, strategic planning, planned giving, and identification, cultivation, and stewardship of donors and volunteers. The ideal candidate will also have an aptitude for marketing and public relations, communication platforms, technology, and community outreach. This position requires a person who is meticulously organized, a self-starter, enthusiastic to solicit donors for support, skilled at managing communications strategies, and extremely good at follow-through and follow-up.
o Bachelor’s degree required
o A minimum of five years of broad experience in institutional advancement, preferably in a public or service-related non-profit organization
o Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including high-level expertise in use of grammar, punctuation, editing, and proofreading skills
o Accuracy and comfort with budgets and financial information
o Strong attention to detail
o Exceptional initiative and proven ability to work well and deliver results in a collegial and fast-paced environment, with multiple stakeholders
o Ability to handle multiple assignments, meet deadlines and track program, budget, and fundraising information
o Flexibility and willingness to work as part of a team as well as independently; ability to coordinate staff, volunteers, and trustees to invite, solicit, and steward donors
o Ability to envision and implement marketing strategies across all communications channels- print, website, direct and e-mail campaigns, radio, TV, and social media
o Experience researching and analyzing marketing and fundraising data and developing strategy based on findings
o Experience in design and production of marketing collateral and print and online materials
o Demonstrated success in social media marketing and e-mail marketing strategies
o Demonstrated success in event planning and coordination
o Technologically versatile with a willingness to learn new skills. Proficiency in donor management systems, MS Office programs required; experience with GiftWorks fundraising database, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, video and audio production preferred
o Ability to build relationships with members of the Manchester and surrounding communities.
