August 21, 2024MANCHESTER, VT—The Manchester Community Library welcomes Ellen Ogden as Director of Advancement. In this position, she will become the Library’s principal fundraising strategist, working to meet annual operating needs and encouraging planned giving and bequests. With deep roots in our community, Ellen is poised to foster stronger relationships among MCL, its donors, and the public.
MCL’s unique financial model makes it one of a handful of public libraries in the state where town appropriations are not the primary funding source. The Library relies on private donations for the majority of its budget. MCL Executive Director Edward Surjan notes, “Ellen joins the MCL team with a deep appreciation for how the Library contributes to our region’s well-being and quality of life. She will be an energetic advocate in expanding support for the Library to a new generation of donors.”
Ellen attended Hobart & William Smith Colleges and cooking schools in Italy and Ireland. She has been a member of the Manchester community for nearly 40 years. She is “delighted to join the staff at the MCL to promote and support all the ways a public community library creates lifelong learning opportunities for all ages.” Ellen is also a well-known local author and speaker; her books are available in MCL’s cooking and gardening sections. The community is encouraged to stop by 138 Cemetery Avenue to meet Ellen at the Library!
