“Threads of History” Program Series Weaves Vermont’s Textile History Into the Present
September 24, 2026Stories of Belonging at MCL
One Monday afternoon after school, a child came to the Help Desk with a question: “Am I allowed to come to Knit Wits?”
They were learning to crochet and hoped to make a blanket for a new baby cousin. Knit Wits is typically an adult group, but Library staff showed them to the Hunter Community Room, where the club meets. The regular participants welcomed the child and made space in their circle.
The child has continued coming to Knit Wits regularly on Monday afternoons.
It’s a small story, but it captures something big that we value deeply about MCL. The child arrived with a new skill to practice and a gift they wanted to make. They also found people willing to share what they knew and welcome them back.
This is one of the moments featured in Our Next Chapter Together, MCL’s Appreciation Report for Fiscal Year 2026. The report reflects ona year of learning, creativity, and connection made possible by the people who use and support the Library. We hope you’ll explore it and find a story that stays with you.
