CLiF’s Two-Sentence Writing Contest 2024

Are you a Vermont resident age 12 or under? Do you like to write stories? If the answer is yes, The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CliF) has a writing challenge for you.
Write two sentences that tell a story about the sky as you have experienced it.

Human beings have been making up stories about the sky for thousands of years.  In exactly two sentences (no more, no less!), tell us a “sky story.”

  • This story could be about something you saw in the sky.
  • This story could be about something that happens in the sky.
  • This story could be straight out of your imagination. (Maybe you’re skateboarding on a rainbow? Using clouds as trampolines? Chatting with the birds as you fly high above the earth together? Up to you!)

Your story doesn’t need to be about the eclipse unless you want it to be. It just needs to involve the sky. It can only be two sentences. And it must be your original work.

A panel of CLiF judges will choose the top entry in each age category:

  • Kindergarten and below
  • Grades 1 and 2
  • Grades 3 and 4
  • Grades 5 and 6

Entries must be either received by email or postmarked by Friday, March 29, 2024. For more information about the contest and instructions for contestants, go to the CliF 2024 Two-Sentence Story Contest website.

Beyond that, keep your eye on the sky. There is no limit on what you can do.
