Planned Giving

The Manchester Community Library exists as it does today thanks to the transformational power of philanthropy. In 1897, Frances Skinner Willing established the Mark Skinner Library in memory of her father for the benefit of the Manchester and residential citizens. Mark Skinner was a Chicago judge and philanthropist who was born in Manchester and returned to spend every summer here.

Decades later, in 2006, another visionary community member committed to a first-rate library laid the foundation for the Mark Skinner Library’s evolution. Lyn Hoyt’s generous bequest provided a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand and enhance the library’s services to better serve the community. On November 15, 2014, the Manchester Community Library opened its doors.

Planned gifts provide creative and flexible strategies for your estate and charitable gift planning. Some may provide you with income, and many can reduce your taxes. The greatest benefit, though, lies in knowing that your generous commitment helps ensure the long-term sustainability of the Manchester Community Library’s mission.

When you consider your estate plans, please consider becoming a part of a lasting legacy by including a gift to MCL and becoming a part of the Frances Skinner Willing Circle. Like Mrs. Willing, you will leave a permanent legacy on the community, ensuring the health and vibrancy of the Manchester Community Library for years to come.

To have a confidential conversation about including the MCL in your estate plans, please contact the Advancement Office at (802) 549-4579 or advancement@mclvt.org. We also recommend contacting your financial advisor or attorney to help determine which planned giving vehicle is most advantageous for you.
