Library members can access thousands of digital e-books, audiobooks, and magazines to read or listen to for free, on their own personal devices, using their Manchester Community Library card!
MEMBERS HAVE THREE DIFFERENT DIGITAL PLATFORMS TO CHOOSE FROM:
1. The Green Mountain Library Consortium ListenUp Vermont (LUV) Digital Library “Downloadable audiobooks and eBooks allow patrons to access a collection any time, and from anywhere. LUV works with PCs, Mac’s, and mobile devices.” The collection consists of content available in English, as well as 38 additional languages, and includes access to over 40,000 ebooks, 8,000 audiobooks, and 4,200 magazines.
2. The Palace Project, available only using the Palace Project APP, provided by the Vermont Department of Libraries, is a “robust suite of content, services, and tools for the delivery of ebooks, audiobooks, and other digital media especially curated for public libraries. Funded by a $5 million investment from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, The Palace Project is a division of LYRASIS, working in strategic partnership with Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).”
3. The Vermont Online Library ebook collection and the magazine, newspaper, and journal article collections contained within 49 databases are provided for our library by the Vermont Department of Libraries.
ACCESS TO THE DIGITAL LIBRARY COLLECTIONS
Library members will use the same Login credentials for each of our digital platforms:
- The username is the 14-digit library card number.
- The password/PIN is the member’s last name* [all lowercase, no spaces or punctuation]. Please note that changing your password in The Manchester Community Library Online Card Catalog (located in the top navigation bar of the MCL website), will also change your password on all Manchester Community Library digital platforms.

What is Kanopy?
Kanopy is a video streaming service that provides instant access to thousands of critically acclaimed movies, documentaries, and kid favorites. We partner with studios like A24, The Criterion Collection, PBS, and more to bring your library access to thoughtful entertainment.
How can I watch Kanopy?
You can stream Kanopy on any of your favorite devices! Kanopy is accessible via mobile and tablet apps for iPhone and Android. You can also access Kanopy on your computer desktop and via SmartTV apps like Roku, Apple TV, and Fire Stick.
How to create an account
- To get started, visit kanopy.com and select the “Add Library Card” button on the lower left
- Log in using your library credentials
- The username is the 14-digit library card number.

Bloom’s Literature
Offers a wealth of relevant content on the most-studied authors and works, multicultural classics, contemporary literature, and more. The database contains over 750 full-length videos of classic plays and films, over 1,000 literary classics eBooks, and over 2,600 full-text poems.
Britannica Library

Encyclopedia Britannica, The Award-Winning Resource for Children and Adults, is the oldest English-language general encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia Britannica was first published in 1768, when it began to appear in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Since its founding, the Encyclopedia Britannica has relied upon both outside experts and its own editors with various subject-area proficiencies to write its entries. Those entries are then fact-checked, edited, and copyedited by Britannica editors, a process intended to ensure that the articles meet Britannica’s long-held standards for readability and accuracy. Moreover, that same team of editors regularly revise and update existing articles to reflect new developments in those realms of knowledge.

LearningExpress provides a comprehensive selection of academic and career-related materials all in one platform. Mango Languages

Are you interested in learning a new language? Your MCL membership provides online access to Mango Languages, offering over 70 languages as a continuously expanding resource. Mango is accessible via a desktop website or a user-friendly app. Mango boasts a visually appealing interface and presents learners with a list of goals/topics for each lesson. Lessons feature visual cues to support teaching vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and even cultural connections! Mango Languages’ PhD-created and linguist-approved software teaches real conversations via engaging and interactive methods. Opinion Archives

Provides full-text searchable archives for journals of opinion, such as The Nation, Commentary, The New Republic, Commonweal, Dissent, NACLA, American Spectator, National Review, Harper’s Magazine, New York Review of Books, and the New Yorker. Covers domestic and international politics, arts and culture from leading authors, poets, journalists, and statesmen.
Universal Class

Universal Class is an online learning platform offering over 500 free continuing education courses that are hosted online and feature real instructors. With a diverse array of course content, there’s something for everyone! Through the Vermont Department of Libraries, all Vermont public libraries may provide access to Universal Class to their patrons. Any library member can use their Manchester Community library card number to create a Universal Class account. Check out this guide to get started.
To use Universal Class, first, register online. If you have already registered, you may go straight to the Login page. You can then participate in classes at your own pace and correspond with instructors. Class participants have up to six months to complete an individual class, and a certificate will be provided upon successful completion. Members may participate in up to 5 classes at a time. Vermont Online Library: Gale Databases
Through the Vermont Department of Libraries, MCL offers remote access to a suite of 50 Gale Online Research Databases in the Vermont Online Library (VOL). VOL offers a wide array of electronic databases for a variety of age levels, including both generalists and specialists. Explore journal, news, and magazine articles on a wide range of topics: biography, business, careers, education, health, history, hobbies, humanities, law, literature, science, and auto repair.
Content made available in the Vermont Online Library is produced by known and trusted publishers, and is available from any location with Internet access. To explore a full list of database offerings and descriptions, visit our curated Gale Pages Collection or access the Vermont Online Library (VTLIB) directly. VOL will ask if you share your location; if not, log in with your library card number.
Online Genealogy Research
FamilySearch.org offers free access to digital images of genealogical records, which can be searched along with a number of databases. FamilySearch maintains a collection of records, resources, and services designed to help people learn more about their family history. FamilySearch also contains the catalog of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, and offers research support through the Family History Research Wiki. Vermont residents can research Vermont birth, marriage, and death records from 1909-2008 on Ancestry.com for free if they first sign up for a MyVermont.gov account. You can read more about how to access Ancestry (as well as Newspapers.com) at the Vermont Department of Libraries info page.
Newspapers
Chronicling America has digitized issues of the Manchester Journal from 1861-1922. Use the “Issues for:” drop-down menu on the left to select a year, then click a date on the calendar to view an issue.
Additional Online Resources
The additional online resources page compiles a variety of resources that do not require a library card to access, including online collections from other libraries, museums, universities, and cultural institutions.
