First “gathering” for people interested in being a reader will be on Thursday, Oct. 3rd at 6:30 at the Dorset Playhouse. 

Since 2003, Vermont Humanities has invited students, adults, and seniors across the state to read the same book and participate in a wide variety of community activities related to the book’s themes.

Maureen Chaffee has directed six staged readings from past selections. She has worked closely with members of the Dorset Players, various community members, and area schools to produce these events. 

This year’s selection, Gather, written by Vermont author Kenneth M. Cadow, has themes of rural life, resilience, class differences, addiction, housing and food insecurity, a deep relationship to the land, and the power of community. 

Please watch for events centered around this novel that will be happening at the Dorset Library, the Manchester Community Library, and the Martha Canfield Library, as well as at area schools. 

The staged readings will take place at SVAC in the Wilson Gallery on November 1st at 6:30pm and on November 2nd at the Dorset Playhouse at 6:30pm.
