Dear Friends of the Manchester Community Library,
As a lifelong lover of libraries, it is my privilege to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of the Manchester Community Library. Over a career in public service that has spanned more than 15 years, in cities and towns across the Northeast, I am thrilled to be part of an organization as dynamic and welcoming as MCL.
Throughout my career, I’ve come to realize that public libraries are more vital today than ever before, and as a father of two young boys, that understanding has only deepened. I’ve seen how their local library has been central in nourishing their curiosity, making new friends, and exploring the world around them. I have experienced firsthand, as a patron and librarian, how essential libraries are in our communities–for meaningful connection, personal enrichment, and navigating a fast-changing world. With a talented and dedicated staff, a state-of-the-art facility, and strong community support, MCL truly stands out.Â
As I join all of you at this moment, it’s clear that this community has not only embraced, but has helped shape some of the core values that MCL stands for: curiosity, lifelong learning, and inclusivity. These are values that have guided me throughout my life and have drawn me to this work. Thanks to you, we’ve experienced phenomenal growth in nearly all areas of our service and impact over the last few years, and I’m excited to help us build on that momentum.
In the coming weeks, I look forward to meeting you, hearing your ideas, and working together to ensure MCL continues to thrive. Please feel free to stop by my office and say hello!
Warm regards,
Matt DeLaney
